AXT, Inc. Announces ISO 14001 Certification

FREMONT, Calif., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AXT, Inc. (Nasdaq: AXTI), a leading manufacturer of compound semiconductor substrates, today announced that it has been certified as having met the international standards of ISO 14001:2004, an Environmental Management Standard. An audit of the company's Beijing facility and environmental systems was recently conducted by an ANSI accredited third party auditor. As a result of the audit, ISO 14001 certification has been granted.

ISO 14001:2004 is the internationally recognized standard for environmental management systems, providing guidance on how to manage the environmental aspects of an organization's activities, products and services more effectively, while taking into consideration environmental protection, pollution prevention, and socioeconomic needs. The ISO 14001 standard specifies requirements for establishing an environmental policy; determining environmental aspects and impacts of products, activities and services; planning environmental objectives and measurable targets; implementation and operation of programs to meet objectives and targets; checking and corrective action and management review.

Registration to the standard enhances environmental performance and compliance to legislated requirements is designed to reduce environmental liability exposure, provide a dynamic structural mechanism for quality environmental management, and increase customer confidence that environmental risks associated with products or services purchased are effectively managed.
